Dr. Phuong Bach earned her Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology from the George Washington University and her Master’s in Professional Counseling from the University of Pennsylvania. She completed her APA-accredited doctoral internship at Howard University Counseling Service and a postdoctoral fellowship at Princeton University. Across her training, Dr. Bach has worked in university counseling centers, community mental health, outpatient clinics, and inpatient psychiatric care, working with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and with diverse clinical concerns.
Dr. Bach’s clinical areas of focus include mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, identity development, relational difficulties, body image concerns, and cultural adjustment. She has a particular interest in working with individuals navigating life transitions, family and relationship patterns, questions of identity and belonging, and the emotional complexities of living across cultures. She also has extensive experience working with substance dependence.
Dr. Bach approaches psychotherapy from an integrative perspective grounded primarily in psychodynamic and relational theories. She believes that present difficulties often make more sense when understood in the context of past experiences, important relationships, cultural environments, and the ways we have learned to understand ourselves and others. Her approach is collaborative, curious, and insight-oriented, with attention to both current concerns and the deeper emotional and relational patterns that may contribute to them. She helps clients develop a richer understanding of their internal experiences, recognize patterns that may no longer serve them, and create opportunities for meaningful and lasting change. She strives to create a therapeutic relationship in which clients can explore different aspects of themselves with openness and curiosity, including experiences that may be difficult to articulate or reconcile.
Dr. Bach provides psychotherapy in English, Vietnamese, and Mandarin Chinese.
